Latest Wild Fire Updates Thursday, July 4, 2002 Cow Camp Fire Receives Additional Support 366 acres, 50% contained, Start: June 29 Cause: Lightning, Location: 15 miles east of Boulder Cow Camp Fire (Pinedale Ranger District): The acreage on this fire has been increased to 366 acres due to more accurate GPS mapping data available. Containment is now at 50%. The fire is about 15 miles east of Boulder and 30 miles from Pinedale. Crews are working to protect an outfitter cabin and nearby cow camp. 185 people (seven crews) and one helicopter are presently working on the fire. Fire restrictions in effect on BLM and State lands. Fireworks are prohibited within Sublette County and on National Forest lands. Fire Danger on the Pinedale Ranger District is Moderate. No closures or restrictions currently in effect on National Forest.

Current Fire Information: The fire status is about the same today as yesterday on the Cow Camp fire. The acreage was increased to 366 acres due to better mapping from GPS data, but the perimeter is the same as yesterday. Precipitation has contributed to keep fire activity to a minimum.    The Cow Camp fire is burning in sub-alpine fir and spruce at approximately 9,000 feet in elevation, immediately south of the Bridger Wilderness boundary, south of Wolf Lake. The nearby cow camp was evacuated on Saturday, June 29th, and fire crews are working to protect the outfitter's cabin. There are no closures in effect due to this fire.    The public is still being asked to refrain from using this area for safety purposes. The weather outlook for today is sunny and breezy with no red flag warnings in effect.    The South Fork II fire is burning on the east side of the Continental Divide on Bureau of Indian Affairs land on the Wind River Indian Reservation. Smoke from this fire can be seen on our side and may be confusing for location. This fire is currently 10,000 acres in size and 0% contained. Back country users are reminded that campfires are not allowed above timberline in the wilderness at any time. Fireworks are prohibited at all times. Sublette County Lighting fireworks is prohibited within Sublette County. BLM: Fire restrictions began July 4th. No open fires except within developed recreation sites. Regulations regarding smoking, operating a chain saw, and welder are in effect. No fireworks. State: Restrictions went into effect on State lands on June 11th. No open fires, barbecue grills or fireworks on any lands or facilities administered by the Game and Fish Department.

Fires at a Glance One fire, the Cow Camp Fire, is currently burning in the Wind River Range of the Pinedale Ranger District in the Bridger-Teton National Forest just outside the Bridger Wilderness. The fire is approximately 1.5 miles south of Wolf Lake just outside the Bridger Wilderness boundary. This is a lightning-caused fire which began Saturday, June 29th.
