Description:Summary Description:
The Mammography Technologist will be responsible for producing high quality mammography images following specific quality techniques at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Technologists perform a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative in applying prescribed ionizing radiation for radiologic diagnosis. Provides direct patient care that ensures quality, efficiency, and well-being of each patient.

Supervision Received: The Mammography Technologist reports directly to the Director of Radiology

Responsibilities:
1. Consistently demonstrates competence in performing all mammograms procedures offered by the Radiology department while ensuring patient safety.

2. Produces high quality films for Radiologists to evaluate for all routine to complex diagnostic procedures.

3. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all anatomical structures.

4. Maintains a high degree of accuracy in mammography positioning and exposure techniques to ensure optimized computer images.

5. Ability to thoroughly explain the procedure in an empathetic and caring way to alleviate patient anxiety. Assures patient’s questions are answered prior to beginning the exam.

6. Performs a variety of tasks involving the operation of mammography unit and other equipment and devices as appropriate.

7. Performs the quality control functions related to mammography.

8. Evaluates the radiographs for diagnostic quality obtaining additional images as needed.

9. Prepares and sets up medical supplies and equipment using aseptic technique if appropriate and explains procedures to patients.

10. Demonstrates an awareness of radiation safety procedures for self and others.

11. Understands and abides by MQSA and FDA regulations.

12. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
1. Graduation from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.

2. Valid State of Wyoming general radiologic technologist license.

3. ARRT registry in Radiology (R) required. ARRT registry in Mammography (M) is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Ability to communicate effectively and politely with patients. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective internal and external working relationships.

2. Knowledge of county, state and national policies and procedures to ensure safety of self and others.

3. Knowledge to operate appropriate radiography equipment proficiently and safely.

4. Knowledge to consistently and properly identify patients and ensure correct exam is being performed.

5. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment.

6. Knowledge of current facility wide policies, infection control policies, ARRT standards and ethics and all department specific policies/procedures.

7. Skill to perform the appropriate test with minimum exposure to the patient.

8. Skill to complete appropriate documentation.

9. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods, and techniques of professional Radiologic Technology to provide excellent patient care.

10. Ability to follow instructions.

11. Ability to work as a member of the "health care team."

12. Ability to work independently and maintain personal and patient safety standards.

13. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

14. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.

15. Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Working Conditions:
1. Subject to varying situations including ability to understand and respond appropriately, effectively and sensitively to special population groups, including those defined by race, ethnicity, language, age, sex, sexual orientation, economic standing, etc.

2. Frequent contact with a variety of people including prisoners and people with mental, emotional and physical disabilities.

3. Medical office, exam room, laboratory, radiology, emergency room and professional practice settings. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases and other conditions common to rural clinic environments.

4. May require travel between District sites.

Physical Demands:
Varied activities including standing, walking, reaching, bending, and lifting. Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients. Also requires manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. This position frequently requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Year-round highway travel between clinics and other facilities throughout the district is required.
