Winter Storm/High Wind Warning through Sunday
January 8, 2005
The Winter Storm Warning for western Wyoming has been extended until Sunday morning. Gusty winds will cause considerable drifting and blowing snow, significantly reducing visibility and causing hazardous travel conditions. Travel through the Hoback Canyon between Pinedale and Jackson will be hazardous, according to the National Weather Service out of Riverton. Travelers are strongly urged to allow extra time to reach destinations.
A High Wind Warning has been posted for the Green and Rattlesnake Mountains for tonight and Sunday. Snow will be heavy at times, with gusty winds in open areas over the mountain passes of western Wyoming. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution due to low visibility and drifting snow. Be prepared for sudden wind gusts and areas of blowing and drifting snow if traveling around South Pass. Gusts of up to 70 mph will be common in the Green and Rattlesnake Mountains. Extreme caution is urged if traveling Saturday night.
The chance of snow will continue into next week across the west. An Arctic cold front will arrive next week around Wednesday, bringing light snow and much colder temperatures. The cold airmass is expected to remain entrenched through Friday of next week.
