Pinedale Drift

April 3, 2005

There are signs of spring everywhere. Even saw some blades of green grass on the warm south side of a building where the snow had melted off. We’ve had several days lately with daytime highs in the 50s, and the snow is melting fast in the valley.

Calving season is in full swing for area ranchers. Bluebirds, meadowlarks, geese and red wing blackbirds have been spotted recently. Still haven’t heard sandhill cranes or seen returning robins. Antelope and deer are moving north. The snow is off most of the dirt roads into ranches. Roads are drying out and starting to firm up into the rural residential areas, however access roads to any of the backcountry are still too wet to drive. Pastures are starting to thaw and folks are beginning to move horses and other animals to the summer ranches as the snow goes off and roads firm up. The Mesa and winter game restriction areas will be in effect through April and lift on May 1st for those who are anxious to get out on 4-wheelers or on the 4-wheel drive two track roads. We will certainly get more spring storms that will bring additional snow through this month and next, but it will be the kind that melts off by afternoon.

The April edition of the Pinedale Drift e-mail newsletter has been sent out. This edition has a full page covering real estate in Sublette County. We’ve compiled a lot of information about the current status, as well as growth projections for the next ten years, which should be of interest to anyone who is thinking about buying or selling real estate in Sublette County with the current oil and gas boom going on right now.

The Pinedale Drift is an opt-in newsletter with news about what is happening right now in Pinedale. It comes out about once a month, more often if there is breaking news or something more we think will be of specific interest to our readers. The newsletter is free and is sent via e-mail as a printable PDF (which requires free Adobe Acrobat reader to view). You can read it completely online, or print it out if you wish. If you would like to be put on our e-mail list to receive future editions, send us a note to drift@pinedalewyoming.com and ask to sign up and tell us what e-mail address you want it sent to. Your e-mail address will remain strictly confidential and will not be sold, given out, or used for any other contact purposes besides receiving the Pinedale Drift newsletter.

Big summer event dates are set, although the fine points of some of the schedules still haven’t been finalized yet. If you are planning to attend any of these events, we strongly suggest securing your room reservations now. Things book up early and quickly. See our motel page for motel contact information. More event information can be found on our Calendar of Events page, which is frequently updated. We’ll post the actual dates of events and more information for each as events get closer and we get more details.
