May 5, 2005
Pinedale teachers will see a bigger paycheck next year thanks to a raise in salary and benefits approved by the Sublette County School District No. 1 school board in a special meeting on April 28th. The decision was made to increase the teacher base on the salary schedule from $32,000 to $35,000 and provide a 10% bonus on the new salary schedule for regularly-scheduled employees. The Board also approved a $1,500 bonus for all full-time employees in the district. All total, this amounts to approximately a 23% increase in salaries and benefits and approximately a $1.4 million increase for the district.
According to a news release from the school district, Board Chairman, Jim Malkowski, said the Board had decided as part of the three year plan to raise the salary base in the third year if funding was available and it was. "We have a good staff and good student test scores. The teachers and staff take care of our kids, our buildings and our buses," he said.
New Aquatic Center in Pinedale At the special board meeting, the Sublette County School District No. 1 School Board also selected a contractor manager to oversee construction of the new aquatic center to be built in Pinedale. The new aquatic center will be built directly north of the current pool, in the open area just south of the elementary school. Once constructed, the old pool area will be redesigned and incorporated in the new facility. The School Board selected Okland Construction Company, which has extensive experience building facilities similar to the one planned for Pinedale.
School Board Chairman Jim Malkowski said, "Okland had more pool experience—they had references from eight or nine recreation pools-- with the kind of pool we’re going to install and their own experienced staff to install it."
Earlier in the year, members of the Facilities Planning Committee visited an aquatics center in Kamas, Utah which was very similar to the facility the district will build. "Okland Construction had built that facility as well, including filling in an existing swimming pool with concrete and building racquetball courts on top of it," said Charles Grove, Superintendent.
