Father’s Day Fishing Derby
Pinedale Boat Club event on Fremont Lake

Father’s Day Fishing Derby Winners:
1st Place: Jerry Despain Jackson, 7# Lake Trout, $625.50
2nd Place: Gene Bryson Big Piney, 6.6# Lake Trout, $347.50
3rd Place: Adam Linn Big Piney, 6.6# Lake Trout, $208.50
4th Place: Norm Pape Daniel, 5.6# Lake Trout, $139.00
5th Place: Dave Pape Daniel, 5.2# Lake Trout, $69.50
On Sunday, 89 hopeful fishermen (and women) signed up for the annual summer event sponsored by the Pinedale Boat Club. Lots of sunshine and little wind made for a great day of fishing and boating for all the entrants. Participants came from Casper, Riverton, Jackson, Rock Springs, Green River and Afton, as well as several surrounding states.
Registration was the highest in the history of the event with past derbies seeing less than 70 in most years. Pinedale Boat Club Commodore Charlie Golden was pleased with the response and thanked all the volunteers who helped him stage the event, with special thanks to Lakeside Lodge for hosting it once again. Due to the high turnout, Golden said next year will probably see a pre-registration the evening before the event.
Twenty people caught and entered Lake trout which qualified at the 23-inch minimum with weights ranging from just over three pounds to a high of seven pounds. The first fish of the day was entered by Jerry Despain of Jackson and weighed in at an even seven pounds. This set the target to shoot for and held on to be the first-place winner at the end of the day.
Second place went to Gene Bryson of Big Piney with a 6.6 pounder, just edging out another 6.6-pound fish caught by Adam Linn of Big Piney. Adam thanked his father, County Commissioner John Linn, for providing the guide service. Fourth and fifth place fish were entered by the father and son team of Norm and Dave Pape of Daniel, tipping the scales at 5.6 and 5.2 pounds – all very appropriate for a Father’s Day event.
All entry money, plus an added purse of $500, was paid out to the top five places with first place receiving a nice reward of $625.50. Second place was paid at $347.50, while third, fourth and fifth got $208.50, $139.00 and $69.50.
