Town Council approves to vacate Mill Street
November 15, 2005
The Pinedale Town Council heard comments from the public at their regular meeting Monday night regarding the proposal to vacate one block of Mill Street to allow the County to construct a much-needed parking garage.
The proposed new garage would be located between the Sublette County courthouse and library, requiring the Town vacate the through street to allow the construction of the building in that location. The County Commisioners have offered financial incentives to the Town as part of the trade, but the Town Council has appeared reluctant to proceed with the deal.
The Town Council sent out a survey to Pinedale citizens some time ago seeking their input, and the majority of the respondents responding supported the proposal for the Town to vacate the street and turn the property over to the County for the purpose of building the parking structure.
Several members of the public gave brief comments in support of abandoning Mill Street at Monday's Town Council meeting. No one spoke in opposition.
The County Commissioners sent a letter to the Town Council offering the Town’s participation in the planning and design of the parking garage so the facility would work in the best way possible for both the Town and the County.
Ultimately, the Pinedale Town Council passed a resolution, 4-0, to vacate Mill Street for a parking garage, contingent on an agreeable building plan and agreement between the Town and County.
