Nailed the tree perfectly
If the tree had been one of the targets, this would have been a perfect shot! "Gee, that's the first thing I've killed with my bow! A tree!"

3-D Archery Shoot
Wind River Archers Archery Club
by Dawn Ballou, Pinedale Online!
August 13, 2006
The Wind River Archers held a 3-D Fun Shoot at the Half Moon Lake Resort archery course on Saturday and Sunday, August 12-13. The shoot was a great chance to enjoy the beautiful summer weather and hone skills for the upcoming archery hunting season, which opens September 1st in most areas of Wyoming.
This was a fun family event with full-size, life-like animal targets on an outdoor course in a realistic forest setting. There were 20 different targets, with shooting positions carefully staked out for men, women and youth archers. Life-like targets included elk, deer, pronghorn, black bear, turkey, badger, boar, mountain lion, an alligator and even dinosaurs for the kids. Some of the shots were extremely challenging and required careful positioning to hit the target around trees and obstacles in the line of sight. Missing the alligator target meant going into the pond to retrieve an arrow. The fun shoot also included raffles, prizes, trophies and medals for best shooting.
The Wind River Archers welcome new members, both youth and adult. Members can shoot at the outdoor range at the 3-D targets anytime during the summer. In the winter, the club uses the indoor archery range on the second floor of the Sublette County Ice Arena in Pinedale. The club holds several 3-D shoots during the year and members also enjoy traveling to other archery shoots in the region.
According to archery club member Joe Zuback, the group is working towards raising funds for several items on their club Wish List. They are trying to raise about $8,000 to purchase an enclosed trailer to haul their 3-D targets and equipment to the sites of their outdoor shoots, as well as another $9,000 to purchase targets to replace ones that are falling apart from wear and tear, and to buy some different ones to add more challenging targets to their 3-D assortment.
The Wind River Archers club currently has about 40 members. General memberships cost $25/year for adults, $35/year for families and $10/year for juniors. There is an additional fee to use the indoor range, which covers the cost of the facility rental and replacing the targets. The indoor range fee is $25/year for adults, $30 for families and $10 for juniors. The memberships and indoor range fees run from September 1 through August 31. The club member who brings in the most additional members by December 31st will get a $100 gift certificate.
17-year old Jeremy Brown, of Boulder, said he has enjoyed archery since he was 5 or 6 years old. “I do it because I enjoy archery hunting,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun!” Jeremy was honored to be the club member who got to take the first shot at a target at the opening of the new indoor archery range in the Sublette County Ice Arena in 2004.
Zuback also said the club will again be offering a Bow Hunter Safety Class. This is a Wyoming Game & Fish certified course, which is required by many states for bow hunters. It is not required in Wyoming yet, but the information is still extremely valuable and worthwhile to attend for any bowhunter. Instructors come up from Rock Springs and donate their time to teach the one-day course. The class is free, with costs paid for by the club. The date for the next class has not been set yet, but will likely be in February or March. “We’re trying to see how many people are interested,” said Zuback. “The club pays for all the costs.” Anyone interested in taking the class should call Joe and let him know you are interested so they can try to get enough people for the next class offering.
