Mother of Wyoming’s First Lady passes away

(Cody) Shirley Castle, mother of Wyoming First Lady Nancy Freudenthal, passed away in Cody on Saturday, October 28, after an illness and subsequent hospitalization, according to a news release from Governor Freudenthal’s office.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date, to be announced. Shirley A. Castle, 76, died at West Park Hospital. Cremation has taken place.
She was born January 14, 1930, in Cody, Wyoming, to Roy H. and Mildred L. (Siggins) Archer. She graduated from Cody High School in 1948. She married Harold W. Roan in McCamay, Texas in 1952, and they had three daughters and two sons. They later divorced. On August 12, 1974, she married Richard H. Castle in Cody.
She worked as a title agent and examiner at Shoshone Title and Abstract Company, and became President of that company. She also served on the Board of Directors for First American Title Company of Wyoming, leaving the Board as its Secretary. She was a life master and championship bridge player with her husband Dick Castle. She enjoyed bridge, reading, camping, fishing, cooking, and spending time with her husband and family.
Survivors include her husband Dick Castle, her two sons Neill A. Roan and Thomas A. Roan, her two daughters Nancy D. Freudenthal and Kathleen Thompson, her stepdaughter Kim Castle, her sister Nancy Mansell, and her eight grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Dee Anne, and her stepson Jeff Castle.
