Avalanche danger lessens
Snowmobile Condition Report
January 27, 2007

CDT SNOWMOBILER'S TAKE NOTE: The International Pedigree Stage Stop Sled Dog Race is taking place this week. Expect to see sled dog race teams on the Upper Green to Pinedale trails Monday, January 29. Teams will be at Middle Piney trails near Big Piney on Tuesday, January 30th.

AVALANCHE HAZARD REPORT:
No significant avalanche activity has been reported in the last two weeks, according to the Bridger-Teton Avalanche Center in Jackson.

The General Avalanche Hazard in the TETON area is expected to remain LOW. Mostly stable snow exists and avalanches are unlikely.

In the CONTINENTAL DIVIDE/TOGWOTEE PASS and SOUTHWEST TRAILS/GREYS RIVER areas, the General Avalanche Hazard is expected to stay MODERATE. A basal layer of weak, faceted snow persists and skiers or riders who venture into steep, avalanche-prone terrain could trigger dangerous hard slab avalanches to the depth of the total snowpack.

Inverted conditions are expected to continue to build overnight with the mountain dropping into the single digits as the valley plummets to near 10 below zero. Clear skies should continue to dominate on Sunday with temperatures rising into the upper teens at all elevations. Northwesterly ridgetop winds are forecasted to increase to 10 to 20 mph by Sunday morning.

TREND FOR MONDAY AND TUESDAY
A similar weather pattern is expected to persist through Tuesday, resulting in continued dry conditions. The general avalanche hazard is not expected to change.
