Flick Theater not threatened says Town of Marbleton
Untrue rumors being spread
by Pinedale Online!
January 25, 2007

The Town of Marbleton wrote an Open Letter to the Citizens of Sublette County on Thursday, January 25th, to squelch apparent rumors floating around that the Flick Theater in Marbleton is in danger of being closed or demolished due to plans for the new south-county medical clinic.

The county purchased land where the Marbleton Clinic currently is located, with tentative plans to expand the facility. As part of those future expansion plans, the Town of Marbleton agreed to abandon Winkelman Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets last December. Apparently members of the local community were extremely upset believing their movie theater was in danger of being shut down, and riled citizens put together a petition with more than 300 signatures on it protesting that action. The movie theater is on private property and the new owners have not yet made public their plans for the future. The Town of Marbleton is adamant that the street will continue to remain open as long as the Flick Theater is open for business and the County Commissioners will not support any plan that closes or demolishes the Flick unnecessarily or prematurely.

“The Flick is definitely safe,” Pinedale Online was told by the Marbleton Town Hall staff today.

“Dear citizens, families, workers and visitors:
Recently there has been an attempt to provoke the public with mis-information and untrue statements about the immediate future of the Flick Theater in Marbleton. This letter is intended to set the record straight.

The Town of Marbleton accepted an ordinance to abandon Winkelman Avenue between 3rd and 4th Streets on December 13, 2006. In that ordinance, the Mayor and Town Council were very specific about their intent to keep the Flick open and operating for the citizens in that part of the county. The Ordinance No. 2006-14 reads “…the vacated street (Winkelman Avenue) shall continue to be used as a street so long as the Flick Theatre remains open for business and until the Sublette County Rural Health Care District has received approval from the Town of Marbleton for construction of the health care facilities and construction has commenced.”

The Board of Commissioners of Sublette County is also 100 percent behind keeping the Flick open as long as possible, and has made it clear that they will support no plan that closes or demolishes the Flick prematurely or unnecessarily.

The Flick serves a very important function for our citizens and there is no reason to believe that it will be torn down and abandoned any time in the near future. Attempts to discredit the plans for the clinic or the intentions of either the Town of Marbleton or the County Commissioners, can only hurt the projects, and calls into question the intentions of those who make them.

If you have any questions, please call the Town of Marbleton Town Hall at 307-276-3815.
