High school alpine ski teams in jeopardy
Casper schools may drop alpine ski sport
January 23, 2007
Pinedale’s high school alpine ski racers will be traveling to Casper on Thursday to race on Friday, January 26th.
That’s the good news. The bad news is that the Casper school board is recommending that both Natrona County and Kelly Walsh High Schools drop the sport of alpine skiing.
Wyoming High School Athletics Association bylaws state that if fewer than six schools participate in a sport for a period of two years, that sport is eliminated. Unless two additional districts in the state establish teams, alpine skiing will be eliminated as a sanctioned high school sport in 2010 in Wyoming.
Supporters are trying to raise awareness of the plight and hoping to get more people involved. The decision by the Casper school districts directly affect Pinedale high school alpine skiers.
Pinedale High School will host their invitational Alpine Ski Race at White Pine Ski area on February 23rd and 24th.
