JIO approves date for new project applications

(Pinedale) - The Jonah Interagency Mitigation and Reclamation Office (JIO) Agency Managers Committee held a regular meeting Nov. 28th to review current JIO activities. The Managers Committee is comprised of the Directors of the four JIO charter members; BLM, and Wyoming Departments of Environmental Quality, Game & Fish and Agriculture. This committee provides oversight and strategic guidance to the JIO.
The JIO was created by the Jonah Infill Drilling Project Record of Decision (ROD) to provide overall management of field monitoring and mitigation activities, both on- and off-site. To perform these functions, the JIO manages a $24.5 million off-site mitigation fund donated by EnCana Oil & Gas (USA), Inc.
As approved by the Committee, the JIO will be accepting applications for the next round of off-site mitigation projects through March 1, 2007. In addition, long-term off-site mitigation goals were approved and are also being released to aid in understanding of the overall goals.
To further assist the public with off-site mitigation project proposals, the JIO will hold an open house from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, in their office at 107 ½ Pine St., in Pinedale. The JIO is located behind High Mountain Real Estate, entering from Fremont St. “The JIO staff will be available to assist interested project proponents with all phases of the process, from project concept and design to completing the application itself,” said JIO Project Coordinator Mike Stiewig. Everyone interested in submitting a proposal is highly encouraged to attend.
