National History Day
June 20, 2007
Jenny Beiermann, a student from Big Piney Middle School, placed 6th in the Junior Individual Performance category at National History Day in Maryland earlier this month. The title of her performance was, “Turning Tragedy Into Triumph: The Fight To Eradicate Poliomyelitis.” To reach nationals, students first had to compete at the local and state levels. National History Day is open to all students in grades 6-12. Students choose a history topic related to the annual contest theme, conduct extensive research over the course of the school year, and create performances, documentaries, papers or exhibits which they may enter in competition at the district, state and national level. National History Day is a year-long program that culminates in a national contest in June in College Park, Maryland. Jenny Beiermann is a student of Big Piney History teacher Jonita Sommers.
