Steel goes up on Pilot Butte Bridge

(Rock Springs) - In a whirlwind of activity at Pilot Butte Exit 107, various groups of construction workers tackle various projects.
The steel girders for the eastbound bridge structure are being placed and bolted into place by one contractor while another contractor's employees are grading the eastbound off ramp in preparation for its opening to traffic on the evening of July 17. The ramp will reopen to traffic by 6:30 p.m. as a gravel surface.
Single lane traffic will continue with minor traffic delays on the Pilot Butte crossroads. Placement of the girders is taking place during daylight hours, with work to be complete by July 18.
At Dewar Drive, night time operations began on July 16 at 8 p.m. Traffic will be reduced to two lanes south of the interstate bridge structure while operations take place during daylight and night time hours. Flaggers will be directing traffic from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly while equipment is crossing the roadway. Motorists can expect delays and slower speeds and possible intermittent daytime flaggers for bridge construction. A dirt crossing will be added, raising the elevation by about a foot to protect the pavement surface from construction equipment crossing Dewar Drive. The operations are expected to be completed on July 21 at 5 a.m.
The Wyoming Department of Transportation reminds motorists to slow down, be alert and be cautious while driving through construction areas.
