Interstate-80 Work Progresses

(Rock Springs) - In the coming weeks, motorists on Interstate 80 and Dewar Drive (in Rock Springs) will see many changes as work on the reconstruction of the interstate moves forward.
Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles and flaggers at the Pilot Butte Interchange and crossroad. The eastbound off ramp at Exit 107 is expected to reopen by Sept. 25. This closure affects only the eastbound off ramp traffic at Exit 107. Motorists will need to plan alternative routes to enter the city. Exit 111 (the Airport Exit) should be used for traffic that misses one of the earlier exits to safely return to Rock Springs. After the ramp reopens, flaggers and construction vehicles will still be in the area working, so motorists should continue to be cautious in this area.
At Swanson Drive, crews are finishing up minor projects in the area. Motorists in the area should be aware that minor delays in traffic are possible as miscellaneous concrete pours are occurring. It is anticipated that the painting of the bridge structures will begin at Pilot Butte and Swanson on Sept. 26.
At the Dewar Drive end of the project, the concrete has been poured for the bridge deck. Intermittent closures on Dewar Drive with flaggers are possible while concrete is poured for the approaches and curbs for the bridge structures.
Throughout the project, construction vehicles will be entering and leaving mainline I-80. Motorists should be prepared for traffic speed changes as slower traffic exits and enters the interstate. WYDOT and the prime contractor, Upper Plains Contracting, Inc. urges motorists to slow down, and be cautious while driving through construction project.
