Presidential candidates court Wyoming
by Wyoming Republican Party
September 23, 2007
Wyoming is in the spotlight like never before, with the GOP’s decision to hold our county conventions statewide on Saturday, January 5, 2008. At those conventions 12 delegates and 12 alternate delegates will be elected to the national convention. National media will be waiting for our results that evening, broadcasting the results from the nation’s first county conventions in the presidential election cycle.
That means that presidential candidates want to personally meet you, the precinct committee men and women who will be doing the voting. To facilitate this, the Wyoming Republican Party is hosting two presidential forums on Saturday, Sept. 29.
The first forum will be in Casper at Casper College. The initial meet & greet will beginning at 10:00 am. At 10:30 there will be speeches from the candidates and followed by questions from Republican precinct committee men and women.
The Wyoming GOP will host the second event at Central Wyoming College Peck Art Center Theater in Riverton at 5:30pm, with the same format as Casper College. A highlight of both events is the opportunity for precinct men and women to scrutinize the positions of the candidates. It’s critically important that Wyoming GOP precinct committee people attend one of the sessions.
The precinct people will be credentialed prior to each event. They will have reserved seating and be provided the unique opportunity to meet and talk with the candidates. The public is invited to attend either or both venues and should have an up close and personal “once in a lifetime” experience. Due to the commitment of the Wyoming GOP leaders to ensure Wyoming has a part in the final national selection, each of the 23 Wyoming county conventions will choose voting delegates committed to specific candidates on January 5, 2008.
The forums are free and open to the public. There will be a social event for precinct people, a public presentation by the candidates, and a question-and-answer session.
Attendance count: Sen. Sam Brownback, Sen. Fred Thompson, Rep. Ron Paul, Rep. Duncan Hunter, Rep. Tom Tancredo have committed to attending.
Unfortunately Gov. Mike Huckabee, Sen. John McCain, Gov Mitt Romney, Mayor Rudy Giuliani have declined; and have yet to confirm their attendance are Alan Keyes, John H. Cox.
