The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service reports that a wolf collared in Alberta, Canada, is now located in Idaho. The collar records the wolf's movements, but was scheduled for release at the end of October. It stayed on the wolf in Idaho for at least another week, but all indications are that the collar has now dropped off the wolf and is on the ground in Idaho, awaiting retrieval.

FWS also confirmed that another Idaho wolf has taken up residence in Yellowstone National Park, proving connectivity between the wolf populations.

Wolf B195 was captured and radio-collared as a pup in the Castle Peak, Idaho pack in January 2004, but was last located in central Idaho in April 2004.

This wolf is confirmed to be in Yellowstone National Park. Doug Smith of the National Park Service reports that B195 was probably first seen in the park this spring. According to a FWS report, B195 spent the summer with the Slough Creek pack, but after their alpha male was hit by a car, a new alpha male came in and apparently kicked him out. He appears to be alone right now but still hanging around Slough Creek territory.

The straight-line distance between his natal pack in Idaho and Slough Creek in Yellowstone is just over 200 miles- not that far for a dispersing wolf.

FWS reported: "The park is so full of wolves it is rare there is any room for a newcomer to squeeze in."
