The BLM Pinedale Field Office announced the approval of a proposal to construct a 350-person worker camp located just south of the Jonah Gas Field.
After an Environmental Assessment analyzing the possible impacts from the construction and operation of the camp facility, the BLM concluded that the proposal submitted by EnCana Oil and Gas Inc. would be beneficial.
“The over-riding factor in favor of placing a worker camp near the Jonah Gas Field, was the safety of both the public and gas field employees and service providers”, said BLM Field Manager Chuck Otto. “The camp will potentially remove hundreds of vehicles and thousands of vehicle trips away from our public highways and provide employees a safe and restful location to stay.”
The worker camp will be located on approximately 20 acres of public land one half mile south of the Jonah Field and will include dormitory style housing, a parking area and other facilities.
The camp is expected to operate until the completion of EnCana’s drilling phase in 5-10 years and would be removed and the area reclaimed when no longer needed.
Work on the facility is expected to start this spring once conditions are conducive for construction activities.
