Fish Wyoming deadline approaching
by Wyoming Game & Fish
January 4, 2008
The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking grant applications for the “FISH WYOMING” program. The goal of the program is to provide assistance to local entities with their projects to promote or develop Wyoming’s fisheries resources.
Project proposals for this year are currently being requested by Game and Fish regional fisheries supervisors to present to fish division administration by the end of February. Project selection and sponsor notification will take place in March.
Local governments, educational institutions, agencies, civic and conservation groups and other non profit-entities may sponsor projects. Grants up to a maximum of $20,000 are available for each project. Sponsors are required to provide at least 50 percent of projects through cash or in-kind contributions.
In years when funding has been available, FISH WYOMING has proved to be an extremely popular program that has funded a variety of projects statewide, ranging from public access acquisition and development to new reservoir development and fishing clinics for children and handicapped individuals.
This is the first year since 2002 that funding has been available.
FISH WYOMING is funded for $140,000 for this year. This program was reestablished with funding made available through a legislative bill in the 2007 session providing the department with reimbursements for free fishing licenses.
