Preparing for the next power outage
by Rocky Mountain Power
January 4, 2008
Rocky Mountain Power is monitoring the weather forecasts today relating to the winter storm approaching its service areas in Utah, Idaho and Wyoming.
As always, the company encourages its customers to make advance preparations for any possible outage; to have an emergency kit available and an emergency plan in place. There are good lists on the company’s website and the websites of other agencies, such as the Red Cross, that outline basic supplies to have in a family emergency kit. Recommendations include: blankets, warm clothing, flashlight with fresh batteries, battery-operated radio with fresh batteries, non-perishable food, manual can opener, among other supplies.
With weather forecasts indicating the likelihood of high winds, snow and ice associated with the storm, Rocky Mountain Power has determined it will have extra crews on duty. Crews and managers will be on full duty through the day Saturday (and beyond if weather conditions warrant) at all its Utah, Idaho and Wyoming locations. Having the crews already on duty will enable quick response to any outages that may occur during the storm in these normally after-hours timeframes.
High winds can be a source of significant damage as storm fronts approach. Wind, rain, snow and ice can cause downed lines and damaged equipment which can cause outages to customers.
Rocky Mountain Power is committed to delivering safe, reliable electricity to its customers and is making preparations for potential outages that could result from the coming storm. We encourage all customers to make individual preparations as well. _________________________________ Rocky Mountain Power customer service phone numbers: Customer Call Center: 1-800-221-7070 Outage Hotline: 1-877-548-3768
