As of Saturday March 1st, the Air Quality Division (AQD) of Wyoming’s Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is lifting the ozone air pollution advisory issued Wednesday, February 27th, for the Upper Green River Basin, in Sublette County.

The ozone advisory was issued because forecasted weather conditions in Sublette County from February 27th through February 29th were favorable for ozone formation. Ozone formation appears to occur in the Basin when there are strong temperature inversions, low winds, snow cover, and bright sunlight. Ozone levels return to normal when any one of those conditions change. Weather systems bringing snow showers and wind are expected to move into western Wyoming Friday evening, which will likely result in normal ozone levels for the next several days.

DEQ is conducting an intensive study of wintertime ozone formation in the Upper Green River Basin and is closely monitoring weather conditions to predict when elevated ozone levels may occur. Future alerts will be issued if weather conditions favorable to ozone formation are forecast. Current information on ozone levels in the Upper Green River Basin can be found for DEQ’s three monitoring stations in Daniel, Boulder, and Jonah at www.wyvisnet.com.
