Not to be outmaneuvered by wild elk that refuse to enter a trap during daylight hours, Wyoming Game and Fish Department personnel waited in the dark Tuesday with night vision equipment for elk to enter the Fall Creek trap, succeeding at triggering the gates with almost 100 elk present at 2 a.m.
With 97 elk trapped, crews found that only six were adult females that hadn’t already been handled for brucellosis testing. Of the six, one cow tested seropositive and was euthanized on site, according to WGFD brucellosis information specialist Christopher Colligan. The meat from this elk will be available for distribution from the agency’s Pinedale office.
