The Pinedale Jazz Band traveled to Casper College to participate in the 41st annual Kinser Jazz Festival on Wednesday, February 6th. The band performed four tunes for their judges and were rated on their performances both individually and as a group.
The jazz band performed for Dr. Andy Dahlke who is a New York City jazz musician and composer. He has taught K-12 and served as faculty member for University of Michigan Youth Programs. He performs with the Colorado Symphony and is a member of the Capitol Quartet, a saxophone group which performs extensively throughout the US.
Dr. Wickham was their other judge, and he also worked with the Pinedale band in a clinic following their performance. He is a Professor of Trombone and Euphonium from the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley.
The Pinedale Jazz Band received two II ratings from their judges. Will Rogers (bari sax), Abe Pearce (trumpet), Meredith Noble (trombone), Conor Raney (tenor sax), Mette Haugen (guitar) and Morgan Holz (bass) all were singled out for Outstanding Solo Awards.
The Pinedale jazz groups did a fine job representing our community and school at this festival. There were over 70 groups attending this festival this year from all over the state and even a couple of groups attending from North Dakota and Montana. The groups at this festival were judged very tight, but consistent
These groups will continue participating at various jazz festivals throughout the Rocky Mountain region beginning at Northwest College Jazz Festival in Powell March 16-18, followed by District Festival April 17 at Cokeville, their home Spring Jazz Concert April 22nd before finishing up with the UNC/Greeley Jazz Festival April 24-25.
Jazz Band I performers were Lizzy Cooney, May Huntley, Andi Noble, Conor Raney, Maggie Hudlow, Will Rogers, JoLee Springman, Meredith Noble, Jake Brunette, Abe Pearce, Ashley Transtrum, Shanna Corwin, Dylan Strike, Brad Reints, Jordanne Steege, Cody Booth, Mette Haugen, Kathryn Konicek, and Morgan Holz. The jazz band is under the direction of R. Craig Sheppard.
