Candidate filing deadline May 30
For state, county and municipal offices

Secretary of State, Max Maxfield, reminds potential candidates that the filing period for state, county and municipal offices nominated at the primary election is Thursday, May 15th through Friday, May 30th. By statute, candidates must have their original application and filing fee filed by the close of the business day May 30th in the Secretary of State’s office, or county clerk’s or municipal clerk’s office, depending on the office sought.
“I see the beginning of the filing period as a time that opens many opportunities for people to get involved in the election system,” Maxfield said. “I encourage people to volunteer to help in the democratic process; choose a candidate and put up signs or volunteer to be a poll worker,” Maxfield said. “The great thing about Wyoming is that we have grass roots elections; we have people to people campaigns, so there are great opportunities to make a difference in a campaign,” Maxfield said.
State Election Director, Peggy Nighswonger, emphasized that by state statute, fax or other electronic filings are not allowed. “We often have inquiries about filing by fax but Wyoming law simply does not permit candidates to file by fax because original signatures are required”, Nighswonger explained.
Candidates for school board and community college trustee elections are nonpartisan and are not on the primary ballot. Therefore, the filing period for those offices does not begin until Wednesday August 6th and ends Monday August 25th.
Secretary Maxfield said, “The list of all state candidates who have filed will be posted on our website right after the close of each day of the filing period. Anyone wanting to take a look at that information can look at our website nightly beginning May 15th”, Maxfield said.

Constitutional Amendment A
Following is the ballot language of Constitutional Amendment A as it will appear on the 2008 General Election ballot:
The adoption of this amendment would clarify and modernize the oath of office taken by all elected and appointed officials of whom the oath is required. The new oath will be: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support, obey and defend the constitution of the United States, and the constitution of the state of Wyoming; that I have not knowingly violated any law related to my election or appointment, or caused it to be done by others; and that I will discharge the duties of my office with fidelity."

Constitutional Amendment B
Following is the ballot language of Constitutional Amendment B as it will appear on the 2008 General Election ballot:
The passage of this amendment would change the requirement for petition signatures for an initiative or referendum. Currently a petition must be signed by at least fifteen percent (15%) of the qualified voters in at least two-thirds (2/3) of the counties, as determined by those who voted in the last general election. This amendment would change the requirement to at least fifteen percent (15%) of the qualified voters in at least two-thirds (2/3) of the senate districts, as determined by those who voted in the last general election.
