Sublette County Public Land Use Policy update
Creating a guiding policy document for management of public lands in Sublette County
by Dawn Ballou, Pinedale Online!
May 8, 2008
The Sublette County Commissioners spent 4-1/2 hours in a workshop session with Cat Urbigkit on Wednesday, May 7, to hammer out more revisions to the wording of the Sublette County Public Land Use Policy.
The policy is intended to be a guiding document to lay out Sublette County’s official policies on the management of public land within the county. Eighty percent of the county’s nearly 5,000 square miles is public land. Urbigkit was hired by the commissioners under a contract to help them write the policy document. The policy will apply only to public land, not private property.
Next step: The commissioner’s changes and more comments from other consultants will be incorporated into the document over the next couple of weeks. Then there will be another review period and work session with the commissioners. After those revisions, it is expected the document will go out for public review and comment, which is expected to be in July sometime.
Urbigkit gladly accepts public comment and input as she works on the document. Residents are encouraged to provide input, either by mail, e-mail or phone. All commenters are asked to provide their name and contact information. Cat can be reached at PO Box 1173, Big Piney, WY 83113, cat@pinedaleonline.com, 307-276-5393 (between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. – no earlier or later, please).
