Conservation group sues BLM to halt drilling on Pinedale Anticline
Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership claims damage to wildlife
June 18, 2008
The Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership (TRCP) filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, against the Department of the Interior over what it calls the BLM’s “mishandling of energy development on the Pinedale Anticline natural gas development project in southwestern Wyoming.”
The TRCP suit contends that the Bureau of Land Management failed to implement "adaptive environmental management" and mitigation requirements as committed to in the decision documents for the Pinedale Anticline project area south of Pinedale, Wyoming.
The sportsmen's group says they do not want to halt development in the Pinedale Anticline. They support “responsible energy development coupled with determined efforts to sustain fish and wildlife resources throughout the course of development activities.” TRCP contends the BLM has disregarded its own decision documents to accelerate energy development, resulting in serious damage to wildlife populations in and around the Pinedale Anticline.
The TRCP contends that these adaptive environmental management procedures, which attempted to address concerns regarding wildlife, air quality and water quality as they arose, have failed.
