Wyoming State Veterinarian Dr. Walt Cook said about 12 livestock producers whose cattle herds had some contact with a Daniel-area herd known to have brucellosis will be contacted beginning on Wednesday, as animal health officials make plans to bleed these herds for brucellosis testing. Since some of the herds have already entered federal grazing allotments for summer grazing, they will probably not be able to be tested until they return to home ranches this fall.
Cook said he was saddened to report that it appears the Daniel-area cattlemen whose commercial cow herd was found to have 15 brucellosis-positive animals also has brucellosis in his purebred herd. Late Tuesday afternoon, Cook said preliminary results indicate several animals from this herd will test as "reactors" or "suspects" for the disease. Only culturing tissue samples will confirm presence of the disease. Results should be available sometime on Wednesday, and will be posted on Pinedale Online when released.
