John Linn seeking re-election for County Commissioner
by Kim Linn
June 10, 2008
Republican John Linn will be seeking re-election in the upcoming Sublette County Commissioner election. John was born in Pinedale and raised on a ranch near the Green River . He has been married to his wife Kim for 29 years and together they have raised three children, Chelsea 26, John Adam 24, and Seth 19, on the New Fork River near Big Piney/Marbleton.
When asked why he would like to serve the people of Sublette County for another term he replied, “There are projects that we have been working on that are not yet completed and I would like to see them to fruition. Issues such as air and water quality have been and still are a concern and I am committed to pursue every option to protect our air and water; even if it includes spending our hard earned money to do the monitoring ourselves. I am also committed to innovative programs such as the Class II road project, Joint Power Boards with the towns, and other creative ways to enhance services or lessen the burdens on our citizens.”
John feels he has a diversified background to represent the Sublette County people. By having been raised on a ranch near the Green River , starting a roustabout business in 1978, and creating a fencing/logging business in 1990, he feels he brings a lot of representation to the round table.
While on the commission John has worked on many boards and attended countless county meetings. “We have many socio-economic impacts that affect the quality of life and our values. Staying informed, listening to the people’s concerns, and submitting comments are ways I represent the citizens. I have always made myself available by having a published phone number, 307-276-5408, a county cell phone, 307-260-8184, and an email johnplinn@yahoo.com. I pride myself on the fact I always return a call.”
John has worked on many volunteer groups serving for 25 years on the Tip Top Search and Rescue and the Sublette County Dive Rescue Team. He was selected to the BLM’s Big Piney/Labarge Coodinated Activity Plan working group, elected to the Rural Health Care Board, The Wyoming Coalition of County Government, and has been extremely active with the BLM’s Resource Management Plan that is under revision which will affect the county for 20 years. Sublette Commissioners are currently developing a Federal Land Use Policy, which helps determine the use of our federal property in Sublette County. John attended meetings in Washington DC to take the case of socioeconomic impacts and other important issues to the Federal BLM director’s office. He was recently elected to the 1st vice chair of the WY Landscape Conservation Initiative.
John is an avid conservationist and has encouraged proactive efforts to protect the environment. He has pushed for the last three years to increase air monitoring and is an advocate to lining waste pits at the landfill to protect our aquifers.
“Anyone who lives in Wyoming is an environmentalist, that’s why we live here. We don’t want to see it destroyed by rapid change or abuse of any kind.” He also defends private land rights.
“Our economy is currently mineral based and we must be progressive in balancing the development of our natural resources while preserving the wildlife and beautiful scenic views. We must also be fiscally responsible and promote other businesses and new enterprises to create and preserve opportunities for our children once the mineral exploration is over. Those in the Big Piney/Marbleton/Labarge area are all too familiar with the boom and bust scenario.”
“There are many issues facing Sublette County and I feel I am informed, prepared, and up for the challenges. The job I started is far from over and I would appreciate your vote of confidence in August and November.”
