Kickin' Cancer biggest success yet

Kickin' Cancer in Sublette County hosted its sixth annual fundraiser at the Pinedale Ice Arena Friday night, June 13.
Several donors speculated that this year's was the best attendance ever; event organizer and Kickin' Cancer board member Kathy Raper said 250 dinner tickets were sold.
Raper took over organizing the fundraiser in November 2007 and is anticipating implementing a few more changes next year. Her ideas include extending the event to last an entire day and providing entertainment for the children in the crowd.
The 2008 event - which included dancing, dinner, a raffle, auction and silent auction - grossed between $115,000 and $120,000, Raper said. These funds will go to local "cancer patients undergoing treatment by helping to defray the costs of travel, food and lodging which come from living in a rural location far from treatment centers," according to the foundation's website, www.kickincancer.org.
Since Kickin' Cancer's induction in 2003, 42 Sublette County families have received assistance for costs of traveling and cancer treatment. More than $300,000 has been paid out by the foundation in the last six years.
"When you start thinking about all the people you know in Sublette County who have cancer, we've helped most of them," Raper said. "And I have two new applications right here."
