Sublette Chamber supports 1% SPET and Lodging Tax
October 16, 2008
The Sublette County Chamber of Commerce has written a letter in support of both the 1% Special Purpose Excise Tax for two new public facilities in the county and to renew the 3% Lodging Tax. In a letter to the membership, Chamber President Forest Wakefield said the proposed new Recreation Center in Marbleton and the Pinedale Community Center serve the needs of our growing communities. He said the Lodging Tax would help to continue Sublette County’s position as a destination unique to Wyoming.
Below is his letter:
Fellow Chamber Members,
The Sublette County Chamber of Commerce Board has voted to endorse both the 1% SPET TAX as well as the LODGING TAX.
We ask you, our members to join the Sublette County Chamber of Commerce in supporting the 1% Specific Purpose Excise Tax (SPET). This tax will appear on the November 4th, 2008 Sublette County ballot as a "FOR/AGAINST" measure and, should the tax pass, would fund the construction, operation and maintenance of the BIG PINEY – MARBLETON RECREATION CENTER and the PINEDALE COMMUNITY CENTER. Both projects serve the needs of our growing communities, and will serve to stabilize our economies well into the future. Although these projects are different in their appeal, they both will serve their specific communities as well as benefit Sublette County as a whole. Most importantly, both projects would include an endowment that will help cover the costs of maintenance and operations for the future of both facilities.
Please join us in voting "FOR" the SPET Tax and help make these facilities a reality. For more information, please visit www.1cent4change.com.
We ask you as members to also join the Sublette County Chamber of Commerce in supporting the retention of the Lodging Tax. This tax will appear on the November 4, 2008 Sublette County voting ballot as a ‘FOR/AGAINST" measure and, should the tax be retained, would continue to fund promotion of Sublette County as well as grants to local events which have come to rely on the support of the Lodging Tax for promotion of their unique events. The Lodging Tax contributes to funding the ongoing operation of the Sublette County Visitor Center. The Lodging Tax is the tax you don’t pay. Tourism is Wyoming’s second largest industry, and Sublette County is unique to Wyoming.
Please join us in voting "FOR" the Lodging Tax and help to continue Sublette County’s position as a destination unique to Wyoming.
Regards,
Forest Wakefield President Sublette County Chamber of Commerce
