Wreath Auction
by Dawn Ballou, Pinedale Online!
December 7, 2008
The Museum of the Mountain Man's 15th Annual Christmas Wreath and Chocolate Auction was held at Rendezvous Pointe in Pinedale on Friday, December 5th. The annual auction is a fundraiser for the museum. This event is the museum's main fundraiser for the year. Members of the community donate beautiful custom-made wreaths, swags and table top decorations. In addition to the live auction, they also had their annual silent auction for wonderful chocolate delights. Money raised goes towards their exhibits and programs.
The Museum thanks all the people who made the beautiful wreaths and holiday decorations and donated them to the auction. They also thank all the people who came to the auction and bid on the wreaths. Special thanks also to First Bank of Pinedale for sponsoring the food and drink refreshments.
Shell Oil brought back the Gayle McMurry Kinnison memorial wreath so it could be re-auctioned for the cause. A condition of buying that wreath was that it be brought back again next year, and in perpetuity, to be re-auctioned to benefit the museum. Gayle Kinnison was a wonderful supporter of the Museum and its programs. She passed away in 2006 and she will be dearly missed.
Sublette County Historical Society President Jay Fear served as auctioneer. Board members Fred Pape and Clint Gilchrist held the wreaths. American Mountain Man Mike Powell came over from Idaho Falls to attend the auction and happily agreed to be a spotter during the auction. Local historian Ann Noble was on hand to sign her new Pinedale photo history book.
