Questar sponsors ‘Futures in Energy’ June 22-26

The Colorado School of Mines program, "Futures in Energy" enrollment is still open! The program is slated to be held at Pinedale High School, June 22-26, 2009. This is an opportunity for students, teachers and sponsors to participate in an educational program that can open many doors for qualified juniors and seniors in high school as they move forward in their educational careers.
The program not only offers an educational, hands-on week in an exciting industry to students, but also an opportunity for a summer internship with one of the industry sponsors. Selected students enrolled in the program will earn a four-week paid internship with a local energy company in their community.
"Futures in Energy" is designed to introduce students to the educational and career opportunities (primarily geology and engineering with a minor emphasis on biology and regulatory work) in the oil and gas industry. Through a series of lectures, exercises, games and field trips, the intricate fundamentals of petroleum generation, accumulation, exploration and production are introduced.
The Pinedale class features field trips to spectacular geologic outcrops between Pinedale and Jackson, visits to state-of-the-art drilling facilities, hydraulic fracturing activity, and natural gas production operations on the Pinedale Anticline. This program is free to interested high school students, and includes lodging, meals and field trip transportation.
Teachers that participate will be provided a six-week curriculum that can be integrated into an existing earth science or geology class. They also will receive a complete curriculum notebook and resource kit to teach this module and a small stipend to support their travel to the class.
"Futures in Energy" is offered by the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council, a national non-profit information network formed in 1994 by oil and natural gas producers. Funding sources include the US Department of Energy through the National Energy Technology Laboratory, State Governments, Universities and State Geological Surveys.
