Wyoming Severe Weather Awareness Week is April 20-24
by National Weather Service Riverton
April 22, 2009
The national weather service in Riverton will be issuing a test tornado warning today, April 22, as part of Wyoming Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Around 1030 am MDT, the national weather service in Riverton will issue the test tornado warning for all of western and central Wyoming.
Around 1045 am MDT, the national weather service in Riverton will issue a test severe weather statement to cancel the test tornado warning for these same locations.
The issuance of these test messages allows national weather service offices serving Wyoming to ensure proper configuration of both internal and external communications systems. This includes national weather service computer systems and the NOAA all hazards weather radio network.
These messages also provide an opportunity for members of the media to check their ability to receive and distribute important weather messages. Most importantly, this test allows schools, hospitals, businesses and families to practice tornado drills and review safety measures.
Understanding the risk of severe weather and knowing how to respond can save lives. Please take advantage of this preparedness opportunity.
