‘Fire Wise Families’ presentation June 18
Smokey is counting on you

Bridger Teton National Forest, National Interagency Fire Center, Student Conservation Corps and the Sublette County Library are joining forces Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 7 p.m. in the new Community Room of the Pinedale branch on 155 S. Tyler Ave to help inform the community on ways to be Fire Wise Families.
¬"We all know that our wet spring will turn into an abundant supply of dry tinder once summer finally arrives," said Juli Winthers, SCL Outreach Coordinator. "Inviting these agencies in to show us the best ways to protect our homes made sense. As drought conditions peak, something as small as a spark from a family barbeque can ignite a raging wildfire".
Recent statistics say an average of 5 million acres burn every year in the United States, causing millions of dollars in damage¬. Once a fire begins, it can spread at a rate of up to 14.29 miles per hour, consuming everything in its path. As a fire spreads over brush and trees, it can take on a life of its own -- finding ways to keep itself alive, even spawning smaller fires by throwing embers miles away.
Rumor also has it that Smokey Bear will put in a guest appearance at the end of the program. For more information please call 307-367-4114.
