Friends, Family, 4-H and FFA equals FUN
2009 Sublette County Fair features Demolition Derby and more
by Sublette County Fair Board
June 23, 2009
This year’s County Fair will take place Thursday, July 23 through Sunday, August 2. The theme is "Friends, Family, 4-H and FFA." Once again, Fair promises plenty to see, do and enjoy for all ages – and not only for 4-H and FFA members, but for the general public as well. There will be more carnival rides than in past years, another great concert, plenty of strolling and scheduled entertainers, open contests in a myriad of skills and levels, and for the first time, a locally organized demolition derby.
The demolition derby, a fundraiser for the Big Piney/Marbleton Fire Department, will be Saturday, July 25 at 4 p.m. Cash prizes and a trophy will be awarded, and lots of action is guaranteed! Enter your car as soon as possible, because only 50 entries will be admitted and you’ll need time to prepare your hunk o’ junk and crew! For important entry rules, fee info, and waiver, see the Fair Book or visit www.sublettecountyfair.com/entryforms.html.
This year’s concert features Jason Michael Carroll, the rising Country star with the 2007 chart-topping debut album, "Waitin’ in the Country." His latest CD, "Growing Up Is Getting Old," just came out in April. Carroll’s hits include "I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead," "Where I’m From," "Alyssa Lies," and many others, which you can enjoy at www.jasonmichaelcarroll.com . You’ll love what you hear, and you can see him perform at the county fairgrounds for only $15 on Friday, July 31 at 7 p.m. Opening act for Jason Michael Carroll is The Doo Wah Riders. Tickets go on sale July 1 at the Cowboy Shop, Office Outlet, Sand Draw Station, Sublette County libraries, Elk Horn Lodge, and All American Fuel. In Kemmerer, pick up tickets at Sawaya’s.
Don’t forget to participate in the numerous open competitions! Areas of expertise range from Team Roping and Dutch oven cooking to gardening, pig wrestling and the Old Hat and Boot contest. Contrary to the country song, it helps to be good, and you don’t have to be good at it to have fun.
Sublink Stage will again offer a free shuttle between Pinedale, Big Piney, and the Fairgrounds July 30 through August 2. The Friday evening schedule has been adjusted with greater convenience for concert-goers. Find the printable schedule posted online at www.SublinkStage.com and on the Fair home page.
Want all the details about the 2009 Sublette County Fair right now? Check out www.SubletteCountyFair.com . You will find the complete Fair Book online, plus schedule, contest entry forms, attractions and events, a photo gallery, and other good stuff.
The printed version of the Fair Book will be available beginning next week at the UW Extension Office and at concert ticket outlets listed above. A separate Fair Schedule, in a convenient pocket-sized brochure, is due to hit county mailboxes July 1.
The Sublette County Fairgrounds are located on US Highway 189 where it joins Wyoming Highway 351, just north of Marbleton.
