Members of the "Magic City Model A’s" car club from Billings, Montana, made a special visit to the Moondance Diner in LaBarge on Wednesday afternoon, June 10th for lunch. Twenty-two members of the club are on vacation touring in their vintage Model A Fords. Each year they take a week-long vacation and tour the country in their vintage vehicles. This year’s tour took them to Riverton, Wyoming; Manilla, Utah: Flaming Gorge; LaBarge; Jackson Hole; Ennis, Montana; then home to Billings again. There were eleven cars in the group.
The Model A was made between 1927 to 1931 by the Ford Motor Company. The caravan travels at an average speed of about 45-47 miles per hour.
The Magic City Model A’s are an affiliate of MAFCA, the Model A Ford Club of America. The club was organized in 2003 as a "club for the Model A enthusiast." Anyone is welcome to join. They enjoy participating in events throughout the year. They hold monthly meetings on the third Tuesday of the month in Billings.
The Moondance Diner has been open for six months in LaBarge. The diner was built in the late 1920s and was originally located in New York City. A LaBarge family purchased it for $7500, after it was scheduled for demolition to make room for high-rise condominiums, and moved to LaBarge, population 431, in the fall of 2007. In its day, customers driving Model A Fords may have parked in front of this same diner 80 years ago when it resided in New York.
