Beetle trees cut and decked in 8-foot sections ready for the taking (with a $5 permit)
by Bridger-Teton National Forest
June 30, 2009
The Pinedale Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest recently completed tree cutting operations in the Elkhart Trailhead/Trails End Campground site, located 15-miles north of Pinedale, Wyoming at the end of Forest Road #740 (Fremont Lake Road/Skyline Drive).
Due primarily to bark beetle infestation, 250 trees have been cut, limbed, and decked at this site and are now available to the public for removal with a valid firewood permit issued by the Forest Service. The logs are cut into 8-foot sections or less and the decks are located immediately adjacent to roads and parking areas for easy access and loading.
Firewood permits may be obtained at the Pinedale Ranger District Office, located next to Ridley’s Grocery Store, during regular office hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM). The cost is $5.00 per cord with a minimum of 4 cords for $20.00. Firewood cutters are reminded that all firewood removed from the National Forest requires a valid Forest Service firewood permit and each load is required to be properly tagged before the wood is removed from the Forest.
For further information, contact the Pinedale Ranger District at 307-367-4326 during office hours.
