The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has issued its rough estimate of the minimal number of wolves, packs and breeding pairs of wolves that exist in Wyoming.
As of October 2, 2009, FWS estimates Wyoming has more than 317 wolves, including at least 180 within the state, outside of Yellowstone National Park, and at least 137 wolves in the park.
Wyoming (outside YNP) has 25-27 packs (including 18-20 breeding pairs), according to FWS, in addition to the 12 packs within YNP (including 7 breeding pairs).
