Closure lifted in the Upper Green

PINEDALE – The Bridger-Teton National Forest announced today that the Upper Green River Area will be open to camping again effective Friday morning, July 16. The closure, which included the area adjacent to the Green River Lakes Road from the forest boundary up to and including the Green River Lakes Campground, was put in place last Thursday due to grizzly bear activity in the area. One bear had been seen in dispersed camp sites and had damaged a tent and gotten into some garbage.
Officials from the Wyoming Department of Game and Fish have been monitoring the area and no bears have been seen for almost a week. "We cannot stress enough how important it is to properly store food, garbage, and other bear attractants" said Trish Clabaugh, acting Pinedale District Ranger. "Taking precautions when camping and recreating in bear country can make a huge difference in protecting both people and bears." Most of the Pinedale Ranger District requires food storage and campers can be sited for noncompliance. Visitors to any part of the forest should check food storage regulations and always store food and attractants properly as a matter of safe practice.
Approved bear resistant storage includes;
A hard-sided camper or vehicle trunk or cab. A cooler left outside is not secure!
A hard-sided dwelling or storage building
Suspended at least 10 feet up (from bottom of the suspended item) and 4 feet out from any upright support such as tree or pole
An approved bear resistant container (bear resistant canisters and panniers are available for use at the Pinedale Ranger Station)
