BLM seeks public comment on proposed sand and gravel pit expansion
On BD Lane northwest of Pinedale
by Bureau of Land Management - Pinedale Field Office
September 20, 2010

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Pinedale Field Office (PFO) has received a proposal from Archer Construction, Inc. of Riverton, Wyo. (Archer) to expand the Binning Sand and Gravel Pit from 10 to 39.9 acres. The proposed expansion is located on a 39-acre parcel of land owned by Burleigh Binning at 35 BD Lane. Ownership will transfer to Archer once all of the necessary permits to operate the permit are granted. BLM will retain management of the subsurface mineral.

The BLM PFO is seeking comments on the proposal from the public by Oct. 30. The legal description for the mining permit area is located in the NWNWNE of Section 29, T34N, R109W in Sublette County. The area is located 1.5 miles west of Pinedale on Highway 191 and north on Ehman Lane approximately 1.5 miles to BD Lane.

Sand and gravel mining began in the early 1980s and is planned to continue until 2015. Once mining has concluded, the land will be reclaimed and sold as lots for homes. The original permit was approved for ten acres and was issued to Burleigh Binning. A new permit will be issued to Archer for the entire 39 acres. BLM will prepare an environmental assessment to assess the possible environmental impacts and disturbances. The expansion of this sand and gravel pit will provide necessary building materials to sustain current community needs and any possible oil and gas production.
