BIG PINEY – Encana Oil and Gas (USA) Inc. contributed $10,250 to A Woman’s Work (AWW) to immediately assist women living or working in the School District #9 area (Big Piney, Marbleton and LaBarge) with unexpected financial needs unmet by other community resources.
"A Woman’s Work has a worthy and steadfast mission to help women stay on the road to be successful and remain stable," said Randy Teeuwen, Encana community relations advisor. "We value their focus, and our partnership to continue to assist our neighbors, strengthen our communities and make a change together."
Since its inception in January 2008, AWW has given nearly $70,000 to 48 women and their families. An all-volunteer organization, AWW partners with local schools, churches and other nonprofits. According to AWW Director LaVonne Stevens, their nonprofit partnerships have given more than $18,000 to grantees, making the grant total $88,177.
"With the collective effort of our 15 local partnerships, we can find the resources available in the community to meet our needs," said Stevens. "We like to think we have stabilized the community when we stabilize a woman and her family. We hope to never run out of funding, when it may be needed the most in a woman’s life."
Encana also contributed $10,000 in 2008 to help establish the organization. The donated funds are used to help women with vehicle payments, dental care, insurance, rent, day care, transportation and utility bills.
"This not only helps the family function in the community, but also helps the service providers remain stable with their obligations," said Stevens. "We are the only organization that provides immediate financial assistance, sometimes within hours of a request."
In return, the recipient is only asked to ‘pay it forward’ by performing an act of kindness in the community within 60 days. To date, AWW has had a 68 percent ‘pay it forward’ success rate.
"We absolutely love Encana. From their employee matching funds to the Men’s Cook Off, Encana and their employees have been a fabulous proponent to our cause," said Stevens. "We are fortunate to have them work and live in Sublette County, and truly appreciate our partnership. They are enormously wonderful to AWW and to our community, I can’t put into words how grateful we are for their support."
In addition to living and/or working in School District #9 for 45 days, women receiving assistance must be referred by a local nonprofit organization, church, school, or AWW donor. For more information on A Woman’s Work, contact LaVonne Stevens at 307-276-3461.
