Barrasso statement on moratorium announcement
by U.S. Senator John Barrasso media release
October 12, 2010
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today (Tuesday, October 12, 2010), U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) released the following statement about the Administration’s decision to lift the moratorium on offshore energy exploration in the Gulf of Mexico:
"Today, the Administration finally decided to lift its overly broad and arbitrary moratorium on offshore energy exploration. This decision is months late and thousands of jobs short.
"It would be deeply misleading for the Administration to signal that thousands of Gulf residents will immediately be able to go back to work. Until the Administration provides regulatory clarity and starts issuing permits, Americans will remain out of work and our nation will continue to increase its reliance on foreign sources of energy."
