On Friday, October 1st, Sublette County Attorney Lucky McMahon submitted a formal notice and Letter of Resignation to the Sublette County Commissioners advising them of her resignation. The resignation letter was officially read during the Tuesday, October 5th county commissioner meeting in Pinedale. Her resignation will be effective as of 5:00 PM on October 15, 2010.
McMahon began her career as Sublette County Attorney in July 2008 to fill the position when it was vacated by the resignation of Ralph Boynton. McMahon was previously a deputy attorney in the county attorney’s office. She was the first female county attorney ever in Sublette County. She ran for the County Attorney Republican position in the May, 2010 primary and lost to local attorney Neal Stelting. There was no Democratic candidate for the position.
The Sublette County Commissioners accepted her resignation. The next step is for them to send a letter to the Republican Party notifying them of the vacant elected position. The GOP will have 15 days to deliver three names to the Sublette Commissioners as their suggested choices to appoint to fill the position until the November 2nd election. The Commissioners then have five days to make the appointment. It is expected that Neal Stelting will be suggested and selected to fill the temporary position, and he will be formally selected by voters in November.
Republican Chairperson Cat Urbigkit is out of the country for the month of October, so the formality task to suggest three names will fall on Vice Chairman Jim Latta.
