Green River Valley Museum Christmas Open House

The Green River Valley Museum in Big Piney held their annual Christmas Open House on Saturday, November 20th. Visitors got to see some of the museum’s newest acquisitions, featuring a historic sheep wagon, donated by Doris Platts.
Doris Platts spent her summers in Wyoming since 1959, working in Moose and Wilson, Wyoming, then moved to Wyoming in 1974. She working summers at a dude ranch, but also fit in riding four falls and two springs for the Upper Green River Cattle Association. She enjoyed the sheep wagon and made a point to sleep in it one night a week in the summer because she delighted in doing this so much. The sheep wagon is approximately 90 years old. The canvas has been replaced at least four or five times, but the wagon has been maintained as much as possible like it was originally.
Also on display was a cupboard desk which came from the Halfway Post Office, a wooden chariot that had been used in chariot races down the streets of Big Piney, and an old military heating contraption from World War II. During the open house, kids were invited to decorate cookies and make holiday ornaments.
The Green River Valley Museum is open during the summer season, June through October. Admission is by donation.
