Special Olympics at White Pine
2011 Area II Winter Games

Special Olympics Wyoming held their 2011 Area II Winter Games at White Pine Ski Area on Thursday, January 20th. Teams from Jackson, Lander, Star Valley and Sublette County attended. Events included downhill skiing and cross-country ski and snowshoe races. There were approximately 40 competitors in the snowshoe and cross country events, and an additional 140 in the downhill skiing events. There were five competitors on the Sublette County team.
Major sponsor was Ultra Petroleum, which covered the costs for lunch and all lift tickets.
Special Olympics Wyoming provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults. Special Olympics is founded on the belief that people with intellectual disabilities can, with proper instruction and encouragement, learn, enjoy and benefit from participation in individual and team sports, adapted as necessary to meet the needs of those with special intellectual and physical limitations.
