by Pinedale Fine Arts Council
April 12, 2011
The Pinedale Fine Arts Council is proud to present the BYU Ballroom Dance Company performing live in Pinedale Saturday, April 23 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pinedale Auditorium.
The Ballroom Dance Company of Brigham Young University has known victory and acclaim throughout the world since its formation in 1971. The Utah-based team is the current US and British National Champion in both modern formation and Latin formation dance. The team has won competitions and astounded audiences worldwide with a variety of showpieces renowned for precision, beauty, and skill. Now the BYU Ballroom Dance Company will bring its world champion showcase Capture the Magic to Pinedale!
Capture the Magic treats audiences to a spectacular variety of dances, including gliding waltzes reminiscent of a royal ball, playful swing dances hearkening back to a 1950s sock hop, and dramatic, high-energy Latin dance. A special black-light number and the team’s competition medleys give additional appeal to the showcase. The dancers engage the audience with pieces that flow between elegant forms and fast-paced rhythms accompanied with amazing, colorful costumes and dramatic choreography.
The dance company will spend the 2010 – 2011 season preparing for a tour to Thailand and Vietnam. The company is an audience favorite in Thailand where they have performed for sell-out crowds several times in years past. The Ballroom Dance Company looks forward to their premier tour through Vietnam where they will perform, serve, and reach out to the community in Ho Chi Minh and Hanoi.
Whether performing in the United States or abroad, the group leaves a distinct impression of professionalism. After the group’s performance in St. Petersburg, Dr. Alex Zapesotski said, "As president of the St. Petersburg Humanities University, I have traveled around the world—to London, Tokyo, Paris—and have never seen a production of your high artistic standard and spirit."
Ballroom Dance Company has recently traveled to England, Hong Kong, and China. The company performed in the Cultural Olympiad of the 2008 Olympic Games. The company has traveled to over 30 countries, even returning several times to many, to showcase their talent, help communities, and build unity throughout the world.
Tickets prices for the April 23 performance are $13 for adults and $7 for students (kids under the age of 5 are free). Tickets are on sale now at Rock Rabbit, Pony Express Photo, The Cowboy Shop, Office Outlets, The Big Piney Library and at the door the night of the performance ($2 extra).
BYU Ballroom Dance Company’s production of Capture the Magic is presented by the Pinedale Fine Arts Council with support in part from the Wyoming Arts Council through funding from the Wyoming Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts which believes a great nation deserves great art, Sublette BOCES, SCSD #1, the Sublette County Recreation Board, the Rocky Mountain Power Foundation, Shell Rocky Mtn., EnCana and QEP Resources.
