Bob Hammond, WYDOT Resident Engineer in Jackson has announced that the reopening of US 26/89 through the Snake River Canyon will not occur tonight (Friday, May 27). "Nothing major went wrong today, it's just progressing slower than we anticipated. It's a huge job to put a pipe in of that size, but all crews are working hard at it," he said. All crews working on the Double Draw Landslide are still working 24 hours a day to complete the cleanup, drainage pipe installation and repairs. WYDOT is still hopeful about getting the work completed and the road reopened this weekend. Alltrans will initiate a free shuttle service Saturday between Victor, Idaho and the Stilson Park and Ride lot at the junction of WYO 22 and WYO 390 south of Teton Village.
The schedule for the 28-passenger shuttle is designed to coordinate with the START Bus schedule for passenger pickups at the Stilson Park and Ride. Passengers who take the START Bus from there into Jackson would pay a $3 fare for that leg of the trip. WYDOT is funding the shuttle service for a 35-day trial period in an attempt to reduce traffic on Teton Pass. The shuttle’s weekday schedule begins with a 7:45 a.m. departure from Stilson to Victor and continues with 11 more runs through the day, with the final evening departure at 7:45 p.m. Departures from Victor begin at 8:15 a.m. and continue until 8:45 p.m. The weekend schedule begins with a 6:45 a.m. departure from Stilson to Victor and continues with 12 more runs through the day, ending with a 7:45 p.m. departure. The Victor departures begin at 7:15 a.m. and run through 8:45 p.m. The full shuttle schedules are available at www.tetonpassshuttle.com or by calling 307-733-3135 for more information. START Bus has adjusted the times of the morning bus schedule from Star Valley to Jackson to accommodate the extra time the trip takes and additional passengers using the service due to the landslide closure of US 26/89 in the Snake River Canyon. That schedule can be viewed at www.startbus.com.
