by Yellowstone National Park
September 19, 2011
Yellowstone National Park is offering free visitor admission on Saturday, September 24, in honor of National Public Lands Day. All entrance fees for the day, including commercial tour entrance fees and transportation entrance fees, will be waived.
National Public Lands Day began in 1994 with three federal agencies and 700 volunteers. Now in its 18th year, National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest hands-on volunteer effort to improve and enhance America’s public lands. In fact, last year more than 175,000 participants pitched in to care for their parks at 2,000 events in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and many U.S. territories
While Yellowstone has already signed up all the volunteers needed for the park’s National Public Lands Day project, volunteer opportunities remain at several other sites in areas surrounding the park. For more information, visit the National Public Lands Day website at www.publiclandsday.org/npld-sites. All Greater Yellowstone Area volunteer events will begin with "Greater Yellowstone Area."
