Chemicals leaching into groundwater samples February 7, 2012 Articles in the Jackson Hole News & Guide and the Casper Star-Tribune discuss a problem Teton County is facing dealing with a carcinogenic chemical leaching out of an old landfill in Horsethief Canyon near the trash transfer station. The chemical, methylene chloride, has been detected in groundwater monitoring wells for several years. The dump, now closed, operated from the 1950s until the late 1980s. One of the possible solutions being discussed is to dig up the trash and haul it to landfills in Sublette County or Bonneville County, Idaho. |
